Raw Cacao Smoothie

I figured it would be fitting after our chocolate indulged holiday that I address the idea of eating ‘Chocolate for breakfast’. You have likely done it once or twice in the last 5 days…secretly… But for me, no matter how early it is, in my mind, chocolate is always a good idea! Yes, I know this isn’t a new phenomenon by any means, but I’m always shocked by how many people haven’t jumped on the bandwagon yet? I think back to my childhood and thanks to Count Chocula, Coco Pebbles, Nutella, oh and I can’t forget those 24 days in December where i’d push open that little perforated door and enjoy a sweet treat right after opening my eyes. Clearly I’ve been on the road to healthy living for quite some time now. BUT what if I told you that chocolate for breakfast is actually good for you AND it’s backed by science, and nobody messes with science. Well, maybe on some things like global warming, the Big Bang theory, evolution etc etc etc. so fine not everyone agrees with Science!

I feel like I’ve probably lost you all now as you rush to the nearest grocery store to load up your carts with chocolate croissants and two bite brownies. But before you do know this: not all chocolate is created equal, so don’t blame me at your next Doctors visit when you tip the scales, because this is what I meant: Raw cacao in your morning smoothie will not only give your brain a boost so you’ll be more effective at work, but it can also help us sleep better at night, AND it encourages the production of endorphins that make us happy. Plus who wouldn’t love waking up to the dreamiest creamiest chocolate milkshake for breakfast?!? It’s one of my favourite go-to’s for one obvious reasons – so freaking delicious!!!!

Now that is a statement I can stand behind, plus this is the kind of chocolate you don’t need to conceal and swallow like a python if you hear someone coming.

Bottoms up!

A smoothie with sooooo much rich chocolate flavour, that if you didn’t know better you’d swear you were eating ice cream for breakfast.

INGREDIENTS

1-2 frozen bananas (I use 1 ½ because I like eat my shake with a spoon)
5-6 ice cubes
1 pitted medjool date
1 tbsp raw cacao powder
1 tbsp vital proteins collagen
1/2 cup unsweetened almond milk
1/2 cup Best BAA Farms sheep yogurt (this stuff is my jam, LOVE IT!)

If you want a dairy free version then just use 1 cup of almond milk.

The process couldn’t be easier… Toss all of your ingredients into your blender and then blend until smooth.

See… sometimes you shouldn’t argue with science.
